WHO WE ARE:
Based in Ottawa, Canada, Gravelle-Perinbam is the collaborative powerhouse of producer / guitar virtuoso Rob Gravelle and producer / vocalist / multi-instrumentalist John Perinbam, the masterminds behind metal legends Ivory Knight. Together, they fuse progressive rock, traditional metal, and hard rock influences into a polished, dramatic soundscape that bridges vintage riffage with modern production.
Recent releases such as the single “Beyond the Cage of Silence” showcase their ambition and willingness to cross genre boundaries while staying rooted in rock’s core energy. Diverse other works include a classical guitar instrumental “The Mad Minstrel” and rockin' covers of the classics "Manhattan Project" by RUSH and "Pleasant Valley Sunday" by the Monkees.
For those who are drawn to powerful vocals and intricate instrumentation with rich production quality, Gravelle-Perinbam represents Canada’s cutting edge in progressive rock innovation.
BIO
Gravelle and Perinbam have been collaborating on various diverse musical projects since the early 1990s.
The prodigious vocal and instrumental talents of the duo have helped their songs and videos garner tens of thousands of streams, downloads, and views.
Their latest release is a metal banger called The Abyss!
Other works include a classical guitar instrumental 'The Mad Minstrel', the epic progressive rock masterpiece 'Beyond the Cage of Silence', and the driving 'Black Veil of Silence',
They're also known for their diverse cover songs, including a rockin' interpretation of the Monkees 'Pleasant Valley Sunday', their take on the RUSH classic 'Manhattan Project', and remakes of The Monks’ Suspended Animation, Oingo Boingo’s Private Life, and Saga’s Mouse In a Maze.
Gravelle and Perinbam also recorded the KNIGHTFALL CD with Annihilator’s Jeff Waters in 2009 and have released several albums with their band Ivory Knight, which appeared in the Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles article "O Canada, Our Home and Metal Land! The List - Great White Metal A-Z;" in issue #92, among greats such as Rush, Saga, Voivod, Annihilator, Exciter, and Anvil!
Gravelle and Perinbam were also the masterminds behind alternative rock band Dr. Squish and rock / progressive / metal act Sudden Thunder.
The recent Gravelle-Perinbam collaborations started with John doing guest vocals on Rob's solo efforts outside of Ivory Knight, starting with a metal cover of the Cheap Trick classic 'Dream Police'. Later John sang and played 6-string bass on Rob's blistering rendition of Deep Purple's 'Highway Star'.
The 'official' recording duo took shape during the COVID pandemic of 2020, with Ivory Knight being unable to rehearse. Unable to remain idle, Gravelle and Perinbam continued to write and record in their individual home studios - and were blown away by the tremendous reaction to their cover songs and videos.
With the project clearly gathering steam, they made the decision to release their original compositions under the Gravelle-Perinbam banner.
JOHN DEVADASAN PERINBAM
CO-PRODUCER / VOCALS / BASS / DRUMS
John is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He is also the lead singer of (Ottawa's) Enforcer and the founder and vocalist of Canadian heavy metal legends Ivory Knight.
John has been singing and composing from a very early age and after some early piano and guitar lessons, studied privately with respected vocal teacher Gloria Jean Nagy.
John's latest solo release was 2020's rock ballad 'Picture on the Wall’ on which he plays all the instruments and sings all the vocals.
John has been involved in many great bands over the years. He was the original bassist of popular cover band Raw Sugar. He played 2nd guitar and sang lead before moving to the bass guitar for Ottawa-based alternative act Dr. Squish, and was the original lead singer and founding member of Sudden Thunder.
